Former Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson has started a “nonprofit” and has made it clear she wants to mobilize money to keep Nilu Jenks out of office.
I’m co-hosting a fundraiser in Greenwood tomorrow (Wednesday) night, October 7th, with the Progressive People’s Pac (P3) to support Ms. Jenks in the face of Nelson’s attempt to get her corporate friends to buy the election for the conservative opponent.
Please RSVP and if you cannot make it, please donate anyway.

My wife and I already gave the maximum donation to Nilu’s campaign when she first announced, and we will be donating to this independent PAC supporting Nilu as well.
Nilu Jenks is running in District 5, which is North Seattle. I know her personally to be a highly capable, hard working Iranian-American mom, super-volunteer and professional who has been working to make our community better for a long time.
Nilu has been a champion for voting rights through her work as the Political Director at FairVote Washington, is a serious policy thinker, especially when it comes to climate change, and is a champion for housing and a safer, thriving, inclusive community.
A progressive Democrat who embraces causes that shouldn’t be controversial to any Democrat like “transit” or “housing near transit” or “all of the above for addressing public safety”- Nilu is far from radical, but she would still be a substantial shift toward common sense progressivism over the paranoid and arch-NIMBY politics of Cathy Moore, her recent predecessor or the bizarre grandstanding of the temporary seat-holder and former elected, Deborah Juarez.
Jenks’ win would put a progressive majority well within reach next year. Not only this, but if she wins really decisively (like Alexis Mercedes Rinck did in her campaign against Tanya Woo), that will deter a strong challenger when she has to run against next year (as in 2027 she will be serving the last year of the Cathy Moore term), which will save a lot of resources for progressives who will want to concentrate resources on the council’s remaining conservatives.
