Thank you, Ron, for pushing back against the relentless Republican propaganda against Mayor Katie Wilson. The way you presented the data was clear and visually understandable.

Unfortunately, citizens have been blasted with lies and misrepresentations by the Republicans ever since Reagan, who was a game changer.

Democrats and Independents need to create a relentless "cultural" offensive where the alternative vision of government as a power for the people's best interests, gains irresistable traction.

This is a good time, given the free-fall this country is in, by almost any critera. Lawlessness, venality, corruption, and greed of the vast majority of polititions in both parties, is beyond belief for someone who has been paying attention for the last 65 years.

There are major cracks showing in this country. Too big to patch up by politics as usual.

I take inspiration from the reaction to Macklemore's stand against to ongoing genocide of the Palestinians.

Ron, I love when policy and statistics wonks like yourself (and that’s a compliment) can break down the numbers into visuals that are completely understandable to nearly anyone with a middle school education. Please keep up the drum beat. We need you!

Between 2020 and 2024, Seattle's annual murder counts ranged from 41 to 68, with a notable peak in 2022 at 68 homicides. In contrast, New York City's murders decreased from 468 in 2020 to 377 in 2024, with a significant drop in

2023 to 391. This data indicates a downward trend in New York City's murder rates over the past five years, while Seattle experienced

fluctuations with a peak in 2022.

Hey Kathy - not sure what you were aiming at here (not sure what 2023 to 391 means?) - anyway the intervening years have seen precipitous drops, and the data I published is much more up to date. We should be safer than we are, but we are much safer than most of the country's big cities.

Oh my oh my. How long you can live is a distraction. The real data is the one you dismiss. How likely are you to be murdered. You say the plan makes you safer. That is emotions. What makes you safer is the reality on the ground of people being killed by drugs or others weapons.

How long you can live is certainly more than a distraction. And in any case, these aren't regular life expectancy numbers - they are the numbers associated with murder. That's more than emotions - it's a cold, hard fact. And your fixation on drugs to the extent that you think murder doesn't count can only be an emotional fixation - there's no logic to that.

You are right that drug deaths are tragic and overdoses are way too high here--I don't disagree with you there. But the fear that is stoked by the media, implying that walking down the street puts non drug users in danger, is, as noted above, clearly not rooted in reality.

All I know is that there are too many murders where I live. Two more last night. Too many guns, too little traffic enforcement, too many bullshit telephone violence counselors draining scarce funds. Lotsa RAH-RAH. And the night and early morning are the times when the most painful scenes take place and the bent and abused present their raw suffering in public. We have it good here, we are not crowded and we are richer than Croesus, for the moment. It is not too wild a goal to eradicate public misery.
